Produced by Dende Collective
Presented by The Cockpit
The shows at the Cockpit are the culmination of a twelve-week project exploring the world of Commedia dell'Arte by a group 60+ residents of the Church Street Ward and its vicinities.
Expect laughs, satire, over the top acting and tender moments exploring the participants' lives and interests.
Commedia dell'Arte was an Italian theatre form from the XVI century that lasted for approximately 250 years. It was initially improvised on the streets in Italy and then traveled to the whole of Europe. It made usage of masks and immortalised characters such as Harlequin, Columbina and Pantaloon. It influenced the theatre of its time and beyond, making fun of social types and issues of that period.
The shows will be partly improvised and reflect issues that concern the participants, portraying characters inspired by the original types of Commedia dell'Arte that relate to their world and Church Street Ward.
The project is led by two Commedia specialists: Andre Pink and Didi Hopkins (from the National Theatre's Two Men, Two Guvnors).
