Ensemble OrQuesta are coming for the first time to the Cockpit Theatre bringing their daring and sensual production of the Italian Baroque Opera L'Incoronazione di Poppea by Claudio Monteverdi. The opera will be performed in Italian with English surtitles and will be accompanied by a baroque period ensemble which includes two harpsichords, an organ, lutes, a baroque guitar, baroque violins and a cello. Ten singers will perform this amazing tragic masterpiece in a modern minimalist setting by director Marcio da Silva. This political drama revolves around sex, power, lust and is based on two historical figures: the Roman Emperor Nero and his lover Poppea.
