PYNEAPPLE

“The best version of you? What even is that?” ...when you’re taught that you’re Other, accepting yourself can be difficult.
PYNEAPPLE is the SPYCE collective’s debut piece of work-in-progress. It is centred around five young women from London on their journey of self-discovery and acceptance. Erycah, Jasmyn, Lauryn, Maya and Raye fight against stereotypes of themselves as young black women, and share their thoughts and opinions within the therapeutic setting of a hair salon - ‘Crowns’. But with rent increasing, will their safe space continue to exist? This new play explores mental health, sexuality, colourism and femininity as the women share themselves, explore and grow with each other.
