She looked like a girl,
but she was actually a door.
And when they opened her up, they
found stairs stairs stairs all the way down...
Money can’t buy love, but with GBP 19.99/month, you can have Vaccine—a mail order bride delivered straight from [our made up stereotype composites of 'the East'] to cure you of the deadlier pandemic that has plagued us for longer: loneliness. This dark comedy is the journey of how a lonely little street girl ventured to become lovable, desirable, unforgettable. Unforgettable Girl questions what lies beneath what you see, and examines how the world turns some women into “homo-sacer” – “accursed” humans who are irredeemable by justice, freedom and love.
Unforgettable Girl was first presented as part of the Bloomsbury Festival’s 2020 NEW WAVE programme, where it was enthusiastically received, and has since seen support from ACE, RADA and The Golden Goose.
On Stage Saturday 20 November at 6:45pm & Sunday 21 November 8:00pm
Performed in English with Thai & French
“A work of depth and beauty… Through the character of an East Asian mail order bride the work interrogates and challenges the privileging norms in society that we are asked to accept often without question. The themes are explored with complexity, nuance, sophistication and humour. Elisabeth Gunawan moves deftly between comedy and pathos, she delivers a tour de force with her performance and she is definitely one to watch.”
Kristine Landon-Smith, Olivier award-nominated theatre director
“Funny and haunting. A piece with heart and an authentic voice.”
David Glass, TMA-winning theatre director
“Hilarious and disturbing… Blends theatrical form to stunning and genuinely challenging effect.”
Daniel York Loh, writer, actor and activist
“Unforgettable, terrifying and hilarious… Transformative and mythic.”
Ian Morgan, director and theatremaker
“Enriching and correctly painful piece of work… a thought provoking, funny and insightful piece on a harrowing subject.
This is innovative work.”
Peta Lily, Dark Clown creator, award-winning performer and theatremaker
“A million times more entertaining than Netflix.” (Maisie, Southend)
“Truly one of the best theatrical pieces I have ever seen.” (Karina, Berlin)
“Astonishing.” (Ruby, Brighton)

Created a Monster is a female-led non-profit theatre company formed in 2014 at Ecole Jacques Lecoq, Paris. We focus on physical storytelling to communicate and engage with our audiences through mime, the grotesque and the exploration of personal hells. The territories of a. The relationship between mental illness and creativity and b. The stories of the voiceless, we return to again and again.
We are a close-knit, dysfunctional family of passionate nerds who are aiming to make it our life’s work to learn from other great artists and create something wholly unique, which allows us to express ourselves to audiences with frankness and without fear. We have learned it is important to stay open in terms of form, and thus our work often branches between
theatre and live art with occasional forays into installation and drag.
This is our third time presenting work with Voila (previous shows: Mortgage at Tristan Bates, Voila spring 2019; Conspiracy of Orphans at Rich Mix, Voila winter 2019)
