Occasional Bar and Front of House Staff
Responsible to: Theatre Director
This is a pleasant bar job - with a bit of sitting in shows to monitor the audience - in a varied, upbeat and humane artistic environment. We need friendly, energetic, capable people with some bar or retail experience. You should be happy to clean, tidy, stock the bar and generally help out as well as serve drinks. We offer flexibility, a good-humored working environment, £11.05 an hour (minimum 4 hours, usually 5.5) and opportunities to get involved in programming or duty management where people want to do that after some time with us.
Within the context of the Cockpit’s commitment to providing quality live events opportunities for all and the marketing strategy of The Cockpit, to assist in the day to day operation and day to day maintenance of the theatre bar and foyer area and/or to undertake Front of House stewarding duties as required.
Main duties and responsibilities
1 Operation and Maintenance of the bar and foyer
1.1 To prepare/maintain and close the bar and foyer in line with the appropriate checklists. (We like checklists)
1.2 Working with the duty manager and bar manager, to open/close the bar and serve drinks and refreshments in line with advertised prices and legal requirements. To carry out accurate cash/card transactions.
1.3 To assist with stocking, clearing and cleaning of the bar and foyer as necessary before, during and after bar opening times
1.4 At the end of sessions, to assist in cashing up, balancing and safe handover of takings. To complete accurate records.
1.5 To assist in any marketing, data collection and promotional activities in operation.
2 Front of House Stewarding Duties
2.1 To carry out pre-show health, safety, fire and security checks in line with the Front of House checklist
2.2 At all times, to be aware of, identifiable and on-hand to implement emergency procedures in the case of fire or other emergency during the period of duty.
2.3 At the direction of the duty manager, to be identifiable and on hand to answer audience queries, control audience flow and assist audience to/from seating as required. Assist with door control, checking tickets and program sales.
2.4 On each occasion of duty, monitor the well-being of audience and respond to difficulties. Particularly where an audience member has a disability. Inform duty manager of problems and in particular health, safety or security hazards or incidents.
2.5 To clean, litter pick and bus glasses as necessary. To generally assist in operating the venue in line with its H&S procedures and protocols for the health, safety and comfort of everyone in it.
